Human Truth Women believe they need to cover up who they are because society told them to.
Insight The product designed to make her acceptable is the same product keeping her hidden.
Concept Break the cover. What’s underneath was always enough.
Women’s beauty standards aren’t something you chose. You learned it early. Before you even had the words for it.
Nobody hands women beauty standards by accident — society manufactures them.. Someone — a magazine, a commercial, a comment from someone who should have known better. Society teaches women to accept this as just how things are. They told you that your face, as it was, needed something. A little coverage here. Some color there. Something to even you out, brighten you up, make you more presentable. More acceptable. More enough.
Society taught you to reach for the compact before you reached for the door.
Nobody told you directly that you weren’t pretty enough, but they didn’t have to. It was prevelant in every advertisement that showed you a before and after. Every product that promised to correct what your skin was already doing naturally. Every beauty counter that handed you a mirror under harsh light and asked what you wanted to fix.
It stopped feeling like a message from the outside, and started feeling like the truth.
what nobody said loudly enough, clearly enough, and early enough was:
The cover up was never yours to wear.
The idea of perfection, that you needed fixing, was never about you. Instead, they manufactured it, packaged it, and sold it back to you in a compact with a mirror inside — so you’d always have something to compare yourself to
You were whole before the first product touched your face, on the mornings you ran late and skipped it entirely, and in every version of yourself that existed before you learned to see yourself as something that needed correcting.
Makeup is not the enemy. Choosing to wear it because it’s fun, because it’s art, because it makes you feel like you belongs to you completely.
Being afraid of what people will think if you don’t cover that zit, under eye circles? Nobody meant for you to carry that weight.
The compact can break. The brand name can fade. Underneath all of it, you remain — and you have always been enough
